چکیده

This paper considers the problem of forecasting in dynamic factor models using Bayesian model averaging. Theoretical justi…cations for averaging across models, as opposed to selecting a single model, are given. Practical methods for implementing Bayesian model averaging with factor models are described. These methods involve algorithms which simulate from the space de…ned by all possible models. We discuss how these simulation algorithms can also be used to select the model with the highest marginal likelihood (or highest value of an information criterion) in an e¢ cient manner. We apply these methods to the problem of forecasting GDP and in‡ation using quarterly U.S. data on 162 time series. For both GDP and in‡ation, we …nd that the models which contain factors do out-forecast an AR(p), but only by a relatively small amount and only at short horizons. We attribute these …ndings to the presence of structural instability and the fact that lags of dependent variable seem to contain most of the information relevant for forecasting. Relative to the small forecasting gains provided by including factors, the gains provided by using Bayesian model averaging over forecasting methods based on a single model are appreciable. Comparison of Kullback-Leibler, Hellinger and LINEX with Quadratic Loss Function in Bayesian Dynamic Linear Models: Forecasting of Real Price of Oil

In this paper we intend to examine the application of Kullback-Leibler, Hellinger and LINEX loss function in Dynamic Linear Model using the real price of oil for 106 years of data from 1913 to 2018 concerning the asymmetric problem in filtering and forecasting. We use DLM form of the basic Hoteling Model under Quadratic loss function, Kullback-Leibler, Hellinger and LINEX trying to address the ...

Forecasting Ination Using Dynamic Model Averaging

We forecast quarterly US in‡ation based on the generalized Phillips curve using econometric methods which incorporate dynamic model averaging. These methods not only allow for coe¢ cients to change over time, but also allow for the entire forecasting model to change over time. We …nd that dynamic model averaging leads to substantial forecasting improvements over simple benchmark regressions and...

Modeling Factors Affecting Tax Evasion in Iran's Economy Based on the Bayesian averaging approach

This study seeks to model tax evasion and identify how effective factors affect tax evasion in the Iranian economy. Recent models show the failure of traditional models; Models do not have enough ability to model hidden variables such as tax evasion. The present study considers this failure in identifying explanatory variables and experimental model design. To achieve this, the Bayesian averagi...

UK Macroeconomic Forecasting with Many Predictors: Which Models Forecast Best and When Do They Do So?

Block factor methods o¤er an attractive approach to forecasting with many predictors. These extract the information in these predictors into factors re‡ecting di¤erent blocks of variables (e.g. a price block, a housing block, a …nancial block, etc.). However, a forecasting model which simply includes all blocks as predictors risks being over-parameterized. Thus, it is desirable to use a methodo...
